IST Crafts Turkish Spindle – Satinwood

IST Crafts Turkish Spindles are lovingly hand made from selected hardwoods in Ian’s workshop on the Isle of Wight located in the English Channel. With a design that is unique to IST Crafts they offer a very attractive spindle that will just keep spinning.

Shaft Wood: English Sycamore

In order to provide stable yet attractive shafts, Ian uses hand selected hardwoods for the Turkish shafts. Each shaft is finely hand turned from the acorn bottom finial to the gentle taper of the main shaft. Particular attention is given to the joint to ensure each shaft fits securely to the cross members so ensuring the spindle spins true.

Cross Member Wood: Satinwood

The cross members are sourced from a supplier of specialty hardwoods for musical instruments. All are hand made in matching pairs to ensure a snug fit and coordination of wood grain and color.

The weight of the spindle depends on what type of spinning you are doing. Lighter weights for finer threads, heaver for the thicker threads and of course your personal preference.
